A lot of charm for the hotel industry lies in going to places you haven’t been to before, and in experiences that aren’t all that easy to come by. We guess these floating hotel rooms would fall fair and square into the second category. Devised by garbage architect Denis Oudendijk, these hotel rooms are made from retired oil rig escape pods.

The floating, fully covered, UFO-like escape pods are a necessity for any oil rig but at the end of their life, they are hardly anything more than round boats waiting to be turned into scrap metal. Their 14 feet diameter though, while not exactly spacious would qualify for something of a novelty, like a hotel room where guests could stay simply for the heck of it.
The pods were purchased at varying prices ranging from $1,400 to $6,000 each, transported, and set up as hotel rooms that go for $100 a night at the Capsule Hotel.
