Lantern Gets Its Juice From Salt Water to Light Up LEDs, USB Devices

Innovation is always welcome, even if it be a wee tiny step in the direction. Allow that to be our reason for finding this LED Lantern interesting. For its power source, the lantern requires 350cc of salt water with a 3-5% salinity. Obtaining that shouldn’t be a problem on most of our planet. This salt water serves as an electrolyte, in place of normal batteries and works with two electrodes that generate enough electricity to power the 10 LEDs on the lamp for about 8 hours.

Hungarian Town After Toxic Waste Spill [pics]

In 2010, a toxic spill in western Hungary killed nine people and forced the evacuation of thousands of others. The spill saw about 1 million cubic meters of aluminum sludge flood nearby areas after the retaining wall around one of the reservoirs went down.

Opening the Tap Could Generate Energy With this Design

A simple opening of the tap could become an energy generating activity, if the ES Pipe Waterwheel designed by Korean innovator Ryan Jongwoo Choi goes through. The design envisions water taps fitted with tiny hydel power generators.
